"Insanity is repeating an action expecting to achieve different results."
Not learning from mistakes defines the "bad" player. It isn't that he isn't skilled, it is that when he makes a mistake he does not learn from it. We have all made errors while playing, but those "bad" players among us will refuse to take those errors into consideration later down the road.

To me: One that carries out arrogance, and will not learn from his mistakes or take handy tips on skills that are severly bad. (Like Mending and Healing Breeze.)
Also think's they're a know-it-all but 70% of the time wrong.
A Newbie is a more suitable word for people who are new to the game, but willing to learn.

Bad players, eh?
they are easy to identify by one "Smart thing" they do: "GFL (whatever group) need (whatever), NO NOOBS!!111one". I am quite sure "noobs" would turn around and never join their group (that irony, btw).
Anyway, this is old wrieup of mine:
Quote:
Player skills is not really what it seems. It's definitely not just button mashing.
It has several components, all of them are important when determining success.
* Courage. Being able to put unusual ideas on table without fear of rejection. Actually going out there and doing something instead of dismissing it as certain failure.
* Personality. Making friends who will help out and keep them. Not fearing to ask for help. Helping others to cooperate by resolving heated situations and by keeping good mood.
* Selflessness. When it comes to playing unpopular, but needed roles, being the one who temporarily abandons his preferred gameplay style for good of party. Being able to follow lead.
* Respect and Honor. When someone else makes mistake, pointing it out, but without belittling him. Not abandoning team because of minor setbacks. Being able to give out advice. Even when someone is completely unsuited for tactics you have in mind, telling him reason when you abandon him so that he can improve.
* Wisdom. Ability to seen ones own mistakes and limits and undoing them. Ability to listen to advice, and to act on it.
* Creativity. Approaching new situations with clean mind and not just reusing old tactics automatically. Taking in concept and perfecting it. Not clinging on old stuff that just works when there is something new that works better.
* Knowledge of game mechanics. Knowing what works and what does not. Being able to communicate it to people who don't.
Well, this is it. Being good player is a lot of thing, but being decent human being comes first, because without it you just can't play on higher level, or hope to achieve something in game when skill matters.

lol.... just keep playing the game. You will meet a lot of bad players. can't explain it to you, I think it is better when you just experience it.
Example, for me, UW pug last night. Team is horrible (don't know which ones where the culprit). The run is taking way to long, I offer a suggestion to shorten the run, and I get flamed that I "don't know what I am talking about" and I "can just leave anytime I want". One guy keeps going with it, telling me I "suck", even though the party had been completely wiped three times (excluding me) due to overaggro, splitting up, hybrid builds, quests being taken out of order, people calling each other noobs, and general bad decisions (I kept quiet the entire time). I had rebirthed the party each time they wiped, I then started asking them to target the same enemy and hold the aggro and not run back towards the monks when they see their health go down a little (I play monk, and hate when people panic and run back at us when they see a little damage on their bar... noob move). This got one player extremely upset and he started showing his true colors.
While clearing the vengeful Aataxe mission, this one bad players continues to tell me that I can "leave whenever I want" and that I "suck", I ask him to stop, and he continues to go on, so I stop healing everyone and sit back.
The other monk in the party was an LoD monk and horrible. The party wiped extremely fast, proving a point that I was the primary one healing the party and that they needed me. I calmly asked the group to get their retarded guild member under control. I teleported us away rezzed their LoD monk, and the minute he was up, the "bad player" started flaming me again, telling me to leave. So, I waited till everyone was rezzed, asked them if they still wanted me to leave, and got a prompt "just leave you noob" from the bad player. I then aggroed two groups of Vengeful Aataxe and ran at the Reaper.
Needless to say, I normally don't do retarded stuff like that, however, I really enjoyed it. I had put up with a ton of abuse from a really bad player, and watched his other guild members on our team just sit there and allow him to abuse someone who was clearly better than he was. He pm threatening to murder me irl and that I "was the reason people can't do challenging missions, or have fun in the game". He said he was going to "come up behind me someday and cut an arm or leg off". I believe that kind of behavior is characteristic or one kind of bad player... although there are other kinds.
The funnest thing about this all is how tough he talked, when I would drop him in a second irl... lol. Too many people play keyboard thug and have no idea who they are talking on the other end.
Anyway, if you play long enough, you will get a better idea of the "bad player". My guild is really know for tearing into "bad players". I hate the fact that I had to resort to such a childish tactic last night to prove a point. Hopefully the point wasn't lost on the other side of the internet.

Somebody who never learns, or refuses to learn or take advice.
Also, personally I think bad players are those that ask questions constantly...and when you give them the answers they still dont understand. So you tell them to look at wiki so they can see for themselves, and learn more about the game...and 2 mins later they ask the same question again, obviously having failed to actually look for the info themselves.
No wait...that's probably not really my definition of a bad player, but it IS something I HATE...lol

The key to GW Is your equipment, the people you play with and your skills. The only bad players you find In PvP/PvE are the ones who have no resurrection skills. Otherwise It's COPY+PASTE off PvXwiki.

You will see bad players everywhere 'cept your guild hall. (maybe even there)
As example yesterday in RA one [skill]headbutt[/skill] warrior said that we all (3 warriors and monk) should target their monk. I refused to target monk who perma protted himself with [skill]shield of absorption[/skill] and [skill]shield of regeneration[/skill]. So i targeted their other stuff and got few kills while other two were hitting 0's, but we lost because our monk died to toxic chill necro. It was their only damage dealer. After the match that Zidane fan started to call me noob etc. I would have given him some advice but he was set himself offline.
So... you got the point i hope.

I've used Ursan before on certain missions. It doesn't mean I'm a bad player, especially if best choice for a team that was unbalanced was to run it. I suspect many people have used this build for odd situations, which doesn't make them a bad player at all, just thinking of all the options (even if Ursanway crosses their mind).
Don't jump to conclusions before thinking through things.

One that won't stay the hell out of my agro circle when I am pulling.
Thats just one of my gripes

I disagree with the statement that Usran=bad. I am sick of playing the same thing over and over like the "trinity" its a nice change of pace. We have been running Ursan in HM dungeons 2 nights now with 3 Hero healers. It is stupid insane fast and different. Everyones inner WAMMO is satisfied.
You know you are, don't deny it.

a bad player is someone who performs poorly in a given context with a given build.
a good player is someone who performs well in a given context with a given build.
good and bad is not always so clear cut. a player can be amazing in one context with one build, but absolutely terrible in another context with another build. labelling someone as bad because he can't play a shock axe in RA, but is amazing playing a monk in GvG, is just poor judgment.

I'd say a bad player is one that show poor sportsmanship-i.e. one that's insulting to everyone, one that is completely full of himself (or herself) and is generally a jerk to be around.
I'd also append on that a noob is a player who doesn't learn from mistakes, or just makes stupid ones. You've all played with this guy: the W/Mo that uses a scythe, the guy that stands right where the puller is pulling from, the sin that thinks he's invicible and shadow steps right into the middle of the mob and gets pwned etc. The guy that consistantly charges into the middle of combat and dies every. single. time.
To me a bad player is all about attitude. Noob is all about not showing the slightest bit of intelligence.

IMHO, a bad player is someone who ruins it for other people. In any way. It could be overaggroing to cause a mission failure, aggro pulling to kill a survivor, A survivor who quits when their team needs them, Scammers, botters, hackers, dupers, inconsiderate jerks, elitists, ragequitters, etc. The list goes on. Notice I don't say noobs, cause everyone was a noob at one point and there's nothing wrong with people just starting out. If nobody else joined the game it would die.
